On February 28, the North Carolina Senate has passed Senate Bill 3, the Compassionate Care Act, that would legalize medical cannabis in the state. The bill, which passed by a vote of 36-10, will now move to the House for consideration. If passed, patients 21 and older would be able to purchase and use cannabis products with a doctor’s recommendation for certain medical conditions. The bill mirrors last year’s legislation that passed the Senate but was opposed by House Republicans. This bill is the latest in a series of efforts to legalize medical cannabis in the state.
